The Urban Conservancy
a group contributing to maintaining the historic urban fabric of New Orleans, by spreading the word. They have some great content on the site. The have a mailing list as well.

The Preservation Resource Center of New Orleans
"The Preservation Resource Center is a private non-profit organization that promotes the preservation of New Orleans architecture and neighborhoods through a variety of initiatives and programs." They will be very important in maintaining New Orleans Culture while improving the city, which is one of the things I believe in very strongly. They also have a community related mailing list with lots of helpful tips and they list neighboorhood meetings as well.

American Red Cross
They are massively helpful in Katrina Recovery, they are truly taking a massive undertaking to help the whole city.
